Texas A&M football: Grading Aggies 2021 recruiting class
Grading the Texas A&M football 2021 recruiting class as Jimbo Fisher and the Aggies continue their dogfight for positioning within the SEC.
Jimbo Fisher was brought into Texas A&M football for two reasons: to recruit the best players in the country and to compete for SEC Championships. The first part has happened and has continued to transpire in their 2021 class. It’s the latter part that the Aggies faithful are still waiting on at this point.
Regardless, Texas A&M has another strong crop of talent coming to College Station that should help the program continue to be a competitive team in the SEC. How competitive they’ll be is the real question at hand, however.
Looking at that and more, we’ll dive into the Texas A&M football 2021 recruiting class and hand out a grade to the Aggies for their efforts. Note: All rankings are via the 247 Sports Composite.
Biggest Texas A&M football commit for 2021: Shemar Turner, SDE
The only 5-star recruit in the class, Turner could be an absolute force for A&M. He has the size and requisite athleticism to play either on the interior or the edge, which makes him a versatile weapon for the Aggies. Expect him to be a move piece who continuously pops up from his first year in the program throughout his entire tenure at Texas A&M as a bonafide defensive playmaker.
Strengths, weaknesses of the 2021 Texas A&M football recruiting class
Anchored by Turner and 4-star Tunmise Adeleye, the defensive line group is quite strong in this 2021 class, especially with another top-150 recruit coming to that unit as well. For a team that needs to reload up front, this is huge for the Aggies.
This is pretty easy to say, but the Aggies linebacker group is not going to get any help from the 2021 recruiting cycle. That, of course, is because A&M failed to land a single linebacker recruit in the early signing period, which is not the best look for that position.
Diamond in the rough of the 2021 Texas A&M football class: Amari Daniels, RB
The No. 5-ranked all-purpose back in this class but outside of the top 300 overall, Daniels is a short player at 5-foot-8 but he’s strongly built and has plenty of shiftiness to his game. He won’t blow anyone away, but he’s the type of player the Texas A&M rushing attack has had plenty of success with over the years.
Where does Texas A&M football rank in the 2021 recruiting cycle?
If you look at where Texas A&M sits nationally, No. 11, they’re in a good spot. However, the bit of trouble when you consider that a team that has to play in the SEC has only the fifth-best class in the conference.
Texas A&M football recruiting grade: B
Do they necessarily need a top-10 recruiting class in College Station? No — but that’s what Jimbo was brought in for. Falling to No. 5 in the SEC is a bit troubling from where I’m sitting.
