Vikings fans are going to want to hear what Randy Moss said about Justin Jefferson
By Scott Rogust
Minnesota Vikings rookie wide receiver Justin Jefferson received some glowing praise from Hall-of-Famer Randy Moss.
At the start of the 2020 league year, Minnesota Vikings fans entered a state of panic after hearing the team had traded star receiver Stefon Diggs to the Buffalo Bills in exchange for an abundant draft package. Included in that deal was Buffalo’s 24th overall selection in this past year’s NFL Draft, and the Vikings used it on LSU wideout Justin Jefferson. Thirteen games in, he’s proven to be a superstar in the making. He’s gotten some huge praise thus far, but now he’s gotten some from a Vikings legend.
During an appearance on ESPN’s NFL Countdown, Hall-of-Fame wide receiver Randy Moss said that Jefferson is not only Rookie of the Year, but that he could join himself, Percy Harvin and Sammy White as the greatest receivers in Vikings history.
Vikings have a star in the making in Justin Jefferson
That’s some glowing praise from the Vikings legend. You have to believe Jefferson has a huge smile on his face after hearing Moss’ comments.
Jefferson got off to a bit of a slow start in the first two games of his career, but he showed the NFL world what he was made of in Week 3 against the Tennessee Titans. The rookie caught seven of nine targets from quarterback Kirk Cousins for 175 yards and a touchdown. That would be his first of five games of recording 100 receiving yards, which broke the franchise’s rookie receiving record set by Moss back in 1998.
So far this season, Jefferson recorded 65 receptions for 1,078 yards and seven touchdowns. He’s just five receptions away from breaking Moss’ record for rookie receptions (69) and 236 receiving yards away from taking away Moss’ record (1,310).
Rarely do we see an NFL trade work out for both parties, but this Vikings-Bills trade has done wonders for each. The Bills have Diggs as their No. 1 pass-catching weapon, and he just tied Buffalo’s single-season receptions record set by Eric Moulds in 2002 (100). Meanwhile, the Vikings shed some cap space by getting Diggs’ contract off the books and got themselves a playmaker on a relatively cheap deal.
Enjoy it now, Minnesota fans, because he’s bound to get a lucrative contract down the road.
