Ohio State legend Eddie George took to Twitter to congratulate Trey Sermon on his outstanding rushing performance in the Big Ten Championship Game.

When you rush for 331 yards in a game, people take notice.

In the case of Ohio State’s Trey Sermon, he got a shoutout from Heisman winner Eddie George.

The Buckeye running back tore it up against Northwestern in the Big Ten Championship Game, helping his team lock up the conference championship and a likely playoff berth.

Along the way, he broke George’s single-game rushing record at Ohio State. The previous record was 314 yards. Sermon delivered 331 and two touchdowns.

Trey Sermon broke Eddie George’s rushing record in impressive fashion

Sermon’s performance was monumental as it looks on the stat sheet. Perhaps even more so.

The Buckeyes were facing a stout Northwestern defense with quarterback Justin Fields struggling through a slight injury. Fields threw for just 114 yards, completing 12-of-27 passes and tossing two interceptions.

The only offense Ohio State could muster was on the ground and Sermon came through in the clutch, particularly with chunk yardage. He scored the only two touchdowns of the game for the Buckeyes, both in the second half.

Incredibly, Sermon was just 13 yards shy of matching his rushing total for the entire season. His two touchdowns doubled his tally for the year as well. He was coming off his best outing of the year against Michigan State with 112 yards but clearly outdid that in the biggest moment.

Ohio State is now on track to lock in a spot in the College Football Playoff on Sunday with a 6-0 record on the year.
