The Saints were forced to release a veteran backup quarterback to make room for a returning Drew Brees.

The New Orleans Saints will be getting a boost in Week 15 as Drew Brees is set to return. His team is looking to regain the top spot in the NFC and getting Brees back should allow the Saints to get back to their normal offense.

Brees’ return meant a move needed to be made and Trevor Siemian has been let go by the Saints.

Background on Siemian’s career

Some fans may not even have known Siemian was on the roster. He was signed in November once Brees went down and came over from the Tennessee Titans practice squad.

Siemian is best known for his time with the Denver Broncos. He made 24 combined starts from 2016-2017 and threw for 30 touchdowns in that span. The former seventh-round pick also has a Super Bowl ring from the 2015 season.

He is still only 28 years old and it is clear teams keep him in mind. The Titans released him only to keep him on the practice squad, and the Saints snagged him from there. New Orleans became his fifth NFL team since joining the league in 2015 and he should be able to find backup work thanks to his experience as a starter.

The only part of this news Saints fans will care about is Brees being reactivated. He has not played since November 15 after suffering a rather serious rib and lung injury. Hopefully, the team doctors are not putting him at risk by allowing him to return.

dark. Next. Saints shouldn’t view Taysom Hill as a franchise QB

The Saints are 10-3 and sit second in the NFC standings behind the 10-3 Green Bay Packers because of a head-to-head tiebreaker. Brees gets the tough task of returning against the Kansas City Chiefs as he looks to prove his team is still a Super Bowl contender with him under center.
