Steph Curry had a message for Klay Thompson after his achilles injury
Steph Curry wants Klay Thompson to stay around the Warriors as much as he can after an Achilles injury is set to keep him out for another long stretch.
For the second straight season, the Golden State Warriors will be without Klay Thompson. But Steph Curry wants him to be present, even if he can’t play.
Thompson suffered an Achilles tendon tear during a workout in November and underwent surgery which will keep him out of the coming NBA season. This comes on the heels of the ACL tear that held him out for all of last season as well.
This time around, Curry had a message for his Golden State teammate.
“Be around the team as much as you can this season. We need you,” Curry was quoted in the San Francisco Chronicle.
Steph Curry to Klay Thompson: “We need you.”
The Warriors could use Thompson on the court, but they’re going to have to make do with whatever support he can provide from the sidelines. They were 15-50 last year while coping with the loss of Kevin Durant and Andrew Iguodala plus the injury absence of Curry and Thompson. On the plus side, the poor record set them up with the second pick in the NBA Draft. They selected center James Wiseman out of Memphis.
Curry is back healthy this year. However, he’ll be essentially rebuilding the team from the ground up with new faces and draft picks.
Expectations will be limited for the Warriors so long as their dynamic duo can’t take the floor together. It’s never too early to start on overall team chemistry and ensuring Thompson remains an integral figure on the roster.
Indeed, Golden State does need Thompson. Especially if Curry is the one who is saying it.
