Mitchell Trubisky and the Chicago Bears have a rocky relationship.
Trubisky was written off, but the Bears are on the verge of winning two straight games with the former No. 2 overall pick at the helm. Despite the constant comparisons to Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes, Trubisky isn’t done writing a biography on his own career arc, which does not end this season in the Windy City, if it’s up to him.
The Bears have no definitive plan behind center after this season. Many suspect they’ll take a serious look at this year’s NFL Draft prospects. That’s a realistic option, but could Trubisky stay around beyond this year as a bridge to any rookie quarterback?
Trubisky and Matt Nagy have backs against the wall
Trubisky has thrown just one interception in the month of December. While he hasn’t been asked to do too much, his ability to escape the pocket is a valuable asset, and one the Bears are intent on using.
Some Bears fans are convinced that keeping Trubisky beyond 2020 is the right move.
Mitch Trubisky looks like a total different quarterback.

Let's give credit where credit is due. Mitchell Trubisky looks WAY better with Bill Lazor calling plays than he did with Matt Nagy.

Lazor is able to play to Mitch's strengths, and Mitch has looked a lot more confident under center because of it. Kudos to the two of them.

We have set anchor on the Minnesota frontier, having left the Pier of Navy at dusk.
This engagement with the Purple People Eaters will be sang for generations as Trubisky's Last Stand. I must find success today.
This is the battle for my livelihood.

That drive felt real for Mitch Trubisky.

This is peak Mitchell Trubisky. Vikings are a good, well-coordinated defense and he’s making plays I haven’t seen him make basically ever (that 14 yard tight-window rolling-left throw to Graham? C’mon!).

Whatever Lazor has put in his breakfast cereal, keep feeding it to him!
Matt Nagy to Mitch Trubisky: "See what happens when you trust yourself?!"
— Flo Ottis (@flo_ottis) December 20, 2020
Let me remind you that (1) Nagy didn't trust Trubisky and benched him for Nick Foles, and (2) Nagy gave up playcalling duties and Trubisky's been playing much better with Bill Lazor calling plays.#Bears

Chicago constantly flip-flopping between Trubisky and Nick Foles didn’t do them any good, because it’s tough to form a definitive answer on whether he’s the future of the franchise. Like most quarterbacks, he has flashy moments, but are the peaks worth the deep, deep valleys?
The more the Bears win, the more they hurt their NFL Draft position. So, it’s actually in Trubisky’s best interest to continue his strong play down the stretch and, ideally for him, force Chicago into a tougher pole position.
Perhaps Bill Lazor and the Bears figured out Trubisky at the right time. Or, more likely, their competition has something to do with that success. Only time will tell if the Bears rely on this small sample size to make a critical decision at QB this offseason.
