Mitchell Trubisky and the Chicago Bears have a rocky relationship.

Trubisky was written off, but the Bears are on the verge of winning two straight games with the former No. 2 overall pick at the helm. Despite the constant comparisons to Deshaun Watson and Patrick Mahomes, Trubisky isn’t done writing a biography on his own career arc, which does not end this season in the Windy City, if it’s up to him.

The Bears have no definitive plan behind center after this season. Many suspect they’ll take a serious look at this year’s NFL Draft prospects. That’s a realistic option, but could Trubisky stay around beyond this year as a bridge to any rookie quarterback?

Trubisky and Matt Nagy have backs against the wall

Trubisky has thrown just one interception in the month of December. While he hasn’t been asked to do too much, his ability to escape the pocket is a valuable asset, and one the Bears are intent on using.

Some Bears fans are convinced that keeping Trubisky beyond 2020 is the right move.

Chicago constantly flip-flopping between Trubisky and Nick Foles didn’t do them any good, because it’s tough to form a definitive answer on whether he’s the future of the franchise. Like most quarterbacks, he has flashy moments, but are the peaks worth the deep, deep valleys?

The more the Bears win, the more they hurt their NFL Draft position. So, it’s actually in Trubisky’s best interest to continue his strong play down the stretch and, ideally for him, force Chicago into a tougher pole position.

Perhaps Bill Lazor and the Bears figured out Trubisky at the right time. Or, more likely, their competition has something to do with that success. Only time will tell if the Bears rely on this small sample size to make a critical decision at QB this offseason.
