In this NFC North showdown, one “contender” is going home

The Chicago Bears and Minnesota Vikings are an underrated rivalry in the NFC North. With both teams sitting a 6-7, their playoff hopes are floating in the balance of Sunday’s outing.

A win for the Vikings all but eliminates Chicago from the postseason conversation. A victory for the Bears keeps their postseason hopes alive, yet still feels like a letdown overall.

Either way, one of these two teams are going home for the Holidays earlier than expected.

There are two sides to every story, just like every team begins a season differently. The Vikings kicked off 2020 with a 1-5 start behind shotty play on the offensive line and Kirk Cousins. Thanks to a rebounding run game, they improved to win five of their last seven.

The Bears were easily the most overrated franchise in the NFL after the their 5-1 rise to stardom in the NFC. With horrendous quarterback play, the team became losers of six straight before a victory over the lackluster Houston Texans salvaged their season.

Mitchell Trubisky isn’t the answer for the Chicago. That said, he’s also not the biggest problem over his past two games. Despite averaging less than five air yards per throw, Trusbiky has thrown for 534 yards, four touchdowns and has yet to cause a turnover since retuning to the starting role.

Minnesota’s offense is designed behind Dalvin Cook, who currently ranks second in rushing yards (1,352) behind Tennessee’s Derrick Henry. The emergence of rookie Justin Jefferson has also bailed Cousins out of multiple jams this season.

The biggest concern will be in the  secondary, which has regressed since the departure of three starters in free agency.  All-time Matt Nagy is  4-1 against the Vikings, suffering his first loss earlier this season in Week 10.
