NBA Twitter got together to roast the Jazz after news broke of Rudy Gobert’s huge new contract.

The Utah Jazz decided to drop a huge announcement on a day usually reserved for football-related drama. The team revealed they gave Rudy Gobert a supermax contract worth over $200 million.

This was great news for the center, but NBA Twitter quickly got together to roast the team for handing out such a big deal to the 28-year-old center.

The Twitter roast of the Jazz

Gobert was up for a new deal and how he has the third-largest one in NBA history. NBA Twitter just couldn’t wait to react.

The Jazz have new ownership and it is clear they want to spend to build a winner. Gobert had already turned down big money with the hope of getting a supermax contract and the move worked. But it is fair for fans to openly wonder if Gobert deserves to get $200 million.

The hope in Utah is that the core of Gobert and Donovan Mitchell can lead the team to a championship. That is, if they can continue to get along after what seemed to be a ruined relationship back in March when Gobert had and seemingly spread COVID-19.

It seems impossible any team would take on Gobert’s contract in a future trade, meaning this is the core for the next half-decade in Utah. If Gobert regresses, the thrill of ownership will fade fast and the memes will only get better on Twitter.

The NBA is set up in a way that allows players to make the most money if they stay with their team. The Jazz took advantage of that rule and seem to believe in Gobert. Now comes proving that it wasn’t the biggest financial mistake in NBA history.
