The New York Post had fun with the Jets potentially losing Trevor Lawrence.

All of the New York Jets’ hard tanking work, which was centered around using the No. 1 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft on Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence, was erased against the Los Angeles Rams. As 17-point underdogs, Sam Darnold and company took down the Rams, which gave them win No. 1 this year and gave the Jacksonville Jaguars control of the top pick. With Lawrence coming to New York now looking more like a pipe dream, the papers had fun dancing on the Jets’ grave.

The Post’s headline of “Lawrence? Welp”, which references the old musical TV program The Lawrence Welk Show, chided Darnold and Adam Gase for drastically altering the team’s 2021 outlook as a result of this win.

The Jets are in a rare situation wherein they are being reprimanded for pulling off an upset

Despite some Jets fans’ wishes to build around Darnold and trade their pick, most expect them to take either Ohio State’s Justin Fields or BYU’s Zach Wilson with the pick. While both of them are excellent prospects, Fields in particular, who will be starters in the league for a long time, they are not in the same elite tier as Lawrence.

While New York will avoid going 0-16 this season, a dubious feat no fan base wants to achieve, the Jaguars will be able to secure the most hyped QB prospect in a decade if they lose their remaining two games.

Fields

and Wilson both look like studs, but the fans wanted Lawrence, and Gase deprived them of joy once again.

While Fields will likely be the quarterback in 2021 and the Jets will be a much deeper team due to all of their draft capital, Jets fans were photoshopping Lawrence into No. 16 jerseys all season long, and that disappointment could carry over into next season.
