Even Skip Bayless thinks the College Football Playoff rankings aren’t fair.

The final College Football Playoff rankings were announced Sunday and the results were as expected. Even if they weren’t the fairest.

Notre Dame snuck in as the No. 4 seed after getting destroyed by Clemson in the ACC Championship Game. That meant Texas A&M, Oklahoma, and Cincinnati all felt snubbed. Leave it to Skip Bayless to sum up the situation for what it is.

Skip Bayless explains why Notre Dame made the College Football Playoff

Most college football fans assumed Notre Dame would make it in even after the 34-10 defeat Saturday. Fighting Irish fans will argue they already beat Clemson once this season. But we all know that came with Trevor Lawrence out and in double-overtime fashion.

There was no way Cincinnati was going to get the fourth spot. That is just the reality of the way this system is set up. The decision then came down to Notre Dame and Texas A&M. The Fighting Irish’s only loss came against Clemson in a conference championship game and the Aggies’ lone loss was against Alabama.

As Bayless points out, putting Notre Dame in brings in a bigger audience and thus more money. It is clear the committee was going to put the Fighting Irish in no matter what. If getting blown out on a neutral field wasn’t enough to be dropped, nothing could have made it happen.

Only having four teams make the Playoff has brought controversy each and every year. Teams like Cincinnati and Coastal Carolina going undefeated and not making it essentially mean the Playoff is reserved for Power 5 teams only. That has not been a secret, but it is still a bummer for players who at those programs. Just ask UCF fans about that.

Bayless says a lot of crazy things, however, this is not one of them. Ignoring the fact the Playoff is about money and ratings is just naive at this point.
