The Tennessee football team’s disastrous 2020 season is officially over at 3-7.
Tennessee football fans can officially turn the page to 2021, as the Volunteers will not play in the Liberty Bowl vs. the West Virginia Mountaineers due to an internal COVID-19 outbreak. Head coach Jeremy Pruitt has tested positive for the coronavirus.
In Pruitt’s third year in Knoxville, the Vols went a disastrous 3-7. After finishing the 2019 campaign on a high note, the Tennessee Volunteers were thought to challenge the Florida Gators and the Georgia Bulldogs in the SEC East. Instead, Pruitt’s seat could not be hotter and the Liberty Bowl will be scrambling to find a replacement to play West Virginia in the Volunteer State.

The Army Black Knights are ready to answer the Liberty Bowl’s prayers
There is an easy solution to be had here for the Liberty Bowl to make. They must do the right thing and extend an invitation to their bowl game to the Army Black Knights. Jeff Monken’s team went 9-2 as a national independent and won the Commander-in-Chief’s Trophy in the midst of a global pandemic. However, they had the Independence Bowl in Shreveport canceled on them last minute.
So with a bowl spot available, look for there to be some dialogue between the Liberty Bowl and the Army athletic department about getting the Black Knights to Memphis to play the ‘Eers. It may not seem like much, but Army getting the shaft on Sunday when the bowl game matchups were announced cannot sit well with anyone. Army vs. West Virginia, sign me up. Get Army to a bowl!
As Tennessee’s season comes to an end, maybe Army’s will continue for one more game after all?
