WWE NXT featured a number of matchups with established names and some newly-rising prospects on the NXT roster.

Violence was the name of the game on the latest edition of WWE NXT. The tag team titles were on the line, Rhea Ripley and Dakota Kai were set for a major singles match and other big moments occurred on the yellow and black brand. With WWE NXT New Year’s Evil a few weeks away, this show pushed ahead with many of those angles.

The action started on Wednesday with an all-out brawl between Kilian Dain and his partner Drake Maverick, who fought the current NXT tag team champions, Oney Lorcan and Danny Burch. The area around the ring was filled with chairs and tables as both teams wanted to do all they could to hurt their opponents.

The champions wanted to isolate Dain in this match, but Maverick would not go away, helping his partner the best he could whenever he was in the match. Neither team was in control for long in this match, with all four men taking big bumps through the weapons. Maverick even found himself taking lashes from his own belt, crying out in pain from each one. But he did get some revenge when he got his hands on the same belt and took it to the champions.

The finish came when Maverick took a cricket bat to the stomach. That set him up for the assisted DDT, which allowed the pinfall in the middle of the ring as the champions retained.

Jake Atlas and Swerve Scott had another singles match, a rematch of their battle from last week. All of the technicality of the last match broke down to a fight between the two men in this outing. Scott was in control for majority of the early going but wasn’t doing enough to keep Atlas down. Scott even caught Atlas going for the Cartwheel DDT, landing a superkick to his opponent’s face. Atlas was never able to catch up, eating the Confidence Boost and Scott picked up the win.

Dakota Kai and Rhea Ripley aren’t friends in any sense, and they had a battle on Wednesday. Kai wanted to show that she’s not afraid of Ripley and can take her on alone. Ripley’s power was on display early, but Kai’s speed helped her gain an advantage after stomping on Ripley’s shoulder outside the ring. Ripley’s arm hindered her offense while Kai continued to batter her throughout the match.

Kai didn’t stay on top for long though, finding herself on the wrong end of a lot of power offense from Ripley. Raquel Gonzalez appeared but stood on the ramp, not coming down to the ring to get involved. Kai tried to survive but ate the Riptide and the pinfall to give Ripley the victory.

Bronson Reed returned to action for the first time in a few months. Ashante Adonis was his opponent, but he didn’t have much to offer Reed. After a senton on the mat, Reed climbed to the top rope and hit a big splash for the pin fall.

Timothy Thatcher vs. Leon Ruff was up next. Thatcher manhandled Ruff all around the ring, landing throws and submission holds at will. Everything that Ruff tried to do bounced off of Thatcher, opening up more punishment from the bigger man. Thatcher continued to try to play with Ruff, but that cost him as he was rolled up and pinned suddenly in a surprise victory for Ruff.

Tyler Rust was in action for the second week in a row, this time against Ariya Davari. Davari didn’t have much to offer Rust in a challenge in this match initially, but he did find some offense, even knocking Rust from the ring. Rust continued to attack Davari with a mix of techniques, finishing him off with a modified version of the Rings of Saturn to get the win.

The main event of the evening brought out the next battle between Adam Cole and Velveteen Dream. Cole was in control initially, but Dream landed a big punch to take over. Cole and Dream battled back and forth in the ring, but focus turned to Pete Dunne’s appearance outside the ring as he attacked Roddy Strong. Cole was able to get some offense in, but Dream was able to fight back.

Cole landed multiple superkicks to Dream and went for the Figure-Four in an attempt to get the win. Dream made the mistake of coming off of the top rope, falling right into a superkick. Immediately after, Cole landed the Last Shot to get the pinfall and the main event win.
