3 big Steelers problems aside from JuJu Smith-Schuster’s dancing

The Pittsburgh Steelers have much bigger problems to deal with instead of focusing on Juju Smith-Schuster’s dancing. 

The Pittsburgh Steelers started 11-0 and have now lost three straight games in which the offense has failed to eclipse the 17-point mark. Naturally, Juju Smith-Schuster making TikToks is being talked about as a major concern.

The Steelers need to face reality and deal with actual problems facing the team before the postseason begins. Smith-Schuster having some fun pregame has little to no effect on his performance or that of the offense.

Here are a few that come to mind after the latest bad loss for the recently undefeated team.

3. Lack of leadership at the top

Mike Tomlin needs to take control of his team. Even discussing Smith-Schuster’s dancing with the media is throwing his own guy under the bus and is almost laughable considering how bad the offense has been the past three games.

Tomlin has taken his fair share of criticism over the years for being more of a motivator than a strategic head coach. But he has still never had a losing record since taking over in 2007.

The problem is that the expectations are high in Pittsburgh. Tomlin did win a Super Bowl in his second season in town. Since then his team has had great regular seasons, only to falter when it matters most.

He has consistently failed to calm down locker room issues and the Steelers deal with far too much drama for such a talented team. Starting 11-0 had everyone happy. Tomlin’s problems could be ignored.

But what happens if the Steelers fail to win the AFC North, or do win and then lose in their first playoff game? Is Tomlin going to throw his young receiver under the bus again as the reason for losing? Or will he call out terrible play from Ben Roethlisberger and the other glaring problems on offense alone.

Tomlin may be able to get the benefit of the doubt from an ownership group that loves stability. However, Roethlisberger is nearing the end of his career and the Steelers didn’t exactly do well when he has missed time in the recent past. Tomlin didn’t coach his way out of that one.

The head coach must refocus his team and get a win Sunday against the Indianapolis Colts. A loss could send the team reeling at a time when they should be feeling great after an 11-0 start.
