Damon Harrison explains why he wanted the Seahawks to release him
After an up and down season, Snacks Harrison gives his reasoning on why he wants to leave the Seahawks before the postseason.
When originally signed, it looked like the Seattle Seahawks and Damon Harrison would be a perfect fit for another. After several up and down weeks, that dream appears to be over.
As the Seahawks look to clinch the NFC West title, Harrison will remain inactive for Week 16. On Monday, the team is expected to release him after he clear waivers.
Most times, that would seem like a sad moment and plenty of resentment from someone who was on a roster that looks to contend. For Harrison, it’s the contrary. And when asked about his release by a fan on Twitter, he gave perhaps the most mature answer by a player looking for his next opportunity.
Maturity from a veteran player
With the return of Bryan Mone, that moved the 32-year-old down the list on the depth chart. Also, the team has seen better success from LJ Collier and trade addition Carlos Dunlap in the pass-rushing department.
It looks more like the job has been completed. Harrison was a decent depth piece despite getting up there in age. Also, teams are always looking for a younger player to build around. Harrison is closer to calling it a career than grabbing a big extension.
Should he pass through waivers, this would allow him to sign with the team of his choosing. Both the Green Bay Packers and Tampa Bay Buccaneers need help in their trenches as injuries and lack of production have begun to pile up.
Snacks showed maturity and growth most young players never can figure out. One has to respect the choice for the fact that he truly did his job.
And if you don’t, he’ll drag you through Twitter and get everyone on his side.
