Dwayne Haskins not helping his case in Washington after ugly performance
Dwayne Haskins continues to do things away from the field that hurt his chances of sticking around in Washington beyond 2020.
Dwayne Haskins began his week by being caught partying without a mask on. But due to injuries at quarterback for the Washington Football Team, he got the start Sunday with a chance to clinch a playoff berth.
He proceeded to go 14/28 for 154 and throw two interceptions before being benched late in favor of Taylor Heinicke. It was an ugly day for Haskins and he only made things worse following the game.
Haskins bails on media obligations
This is a bad look from a player who is supposed to be a leader for his team. At this point it is pretty clear that Haskins is not the future in Washington and he may have just gone home to avoid getting frustrated with the media after the game. We all know his partying would have been brought up at some point.
Haskins was the No. 15 overall pick in 2019 and may be cut loose after only two seasons. It is a fair point to say he needs more time to learn and develop before he is considered a bust and written off for good. However, he was poised to be a starter in a potential division-clinching game and he couldn’t follow simple rules to keep himself and his teammates safe.
One thing a young player like Haskins may not realize is by him not talking to the media, his teammates then have to answer for him and his play after a tough loss. He creates yet another unnecessary distraction and it is hard to believe Ron Rivera is going to advocate for another year of Haskins in 2021.
The quarterback was already fined for his night out and may be facing another fee for skipping out on his postgame chat. Not quite what a team wants from a first-round pick and starting quarterback.
