2. San Francisco 49ers

Imagine Dalton in a scarlet and gold uniform. This is a team he could take to the postseason and have his biggest run yet. Yes, the 49ers are at the bottom of the NFC West. However, it was just a season ago when the San Francisco 49ers held a 10-point lead to start the final quarter on Super Bowl Sunday. Of course, the team blew the lead, with Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs scoring 21 answered points to win Super Bowl LIV.

In 2020, things went further south for the 49ers with injuries mounting and the team still unsure if Jimmy Garoppolo is the answer. With Garoppolo’s 2021 contract flexibility, the team could get a twofer. They could sign a veteran quarterback in Dalton who is capable of leading this offense to a deep postseason run. Plus, they can acquire Dalton at a cheaper rate than Garopolo’s near $25 million that he’s due in 2021. With the extra cap space, the team could acquire a free agent or two go to strengthen their roster in 2021.

With head coach Kyle Shanahan, Dalton would have a coach who is a master of scheming his offense to the strength of his starting quarterback. He could prove to be the bridge quarterback this team desperately needs.
