Stefon Diggs breaks Bills single-season receiving record in style (Video)

Stefon Diggs was acquired by the Buffalo Bills for a reason, and he’s making history in the process.

The Buffalo Bills‘ biggest need this past offseason was to bolster their wide receiver corps. Instead of using their first-round pick on one, they opted to acquire Stefon Diggs from the Minnesota Vikings to be quarterback Josh Allen’s No. 1 target. The trade has worked out for both teams, but the Bills may have the edge in terms of who really won the trade.

On Monday night, Diggs recorded a 50-yard touchdown reception against the New England Patriots to give the Bills a 24-9 lead in the second quarter. With that catch-and-run, Diggs now broke the Bills’ single-season receiving yards record, which was previously held in 1998 by Eric Moulds.

Diggs was just what Buffalo’s offense needed

Back in 1998, Moulds set the standard for Bills wide receivers by putting up 1,368 receiving yards in 16 games. 22 years later, and Moulds has taken a backseat to Diggs.

This isn’t the first time that Diggs has broken a record set by Moulds. Back in Week 15, Diggs broke the record during Buffalo’s game against the Denver Broncos, putting him at 101 receptions on 134 targets at the time. Back in 2002, Moulds recorded 100 receptions, but on 180 targets. While Moulds was great back in the day, Diggs has been much more efficient.

At the time of the trade, some were skeptical of how Diggs would fit on the team, given how his tenure with the Vikings ended. Not only that, but the Bills surrendered their 2020 first-round pick, 2020 fifth-round pick, 2020 sixth-round pick and 2021 fourth-round pick to acquire the wide receiver. And based off the results we’ve seen 16 weeks into the 2020 season, it was absolutely worth it for Buffalo.
