2021 NFL Mock Draft: New York Jets pass on a quarterback
By Brad Weiss
With the No. 10 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Denver Broncos add one of the top edge rushers in the draft class. The Broncos have long been led by the defense, and while they could certainly draft a quarterback here, they instead decide to go with Gregory Rousseau from the University of Miami, (FL).
Rousseau is the kind of player that could end up being a double-digit sack guy at the next level, and the Broncos need somebody to team with Bradley Chubb. They should get Von Miller back healthy next year as well, so a trio of pass rushers like them would make life a bit easier for the Broncos in an AFC West that includes Patrick Mahomes and Justin Herbert.
The Dallas Cowboys have a big decision to make next offseason regarding their quarterback, as they may need to bring out the Brinks truck for Dak Prescott. It was clear this season what Prescott brings to this Cowboys offense, and moving forward, they need to get better in front of him.
Enter Rashawn Slater, a towering offensive tackle from Northwestern who could be an anchor on this offensive line for years to come. Protecting Prescott has to be the No. 1 priority for this franchise moving forward, and using the No. 11 overall pick on Slater helps them do that.
With the No. 12 overall selection in a 2021 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles chargers look to protect the No. 1 asset of their own. Justin Herbert has proven that he can be a franchise quarterback at the NFL level, and with this pick, they get better in front of him for the long run.
Christian Darrisaw is one of the top offensive tackles in this draft class, and for a team who has struggled to protect quarterbacks, he is a no-brainer here. Herbert is a special player and should have a long NFL career if the Chargers do right by him and protect him at all costs.
