NFL execs think Colts could make a run for Matthew Stafford or Carson Wentz

With the Indianapolis Colts looking for a quarterback of the future, could they trade for either Carson Wentz or Matthew Stafford? 

After signing veteran quarterback Philip Rivers to a one-year, $25 million contract for the 2020 campaign, the Indianapolis Colts are going to need to find themselves a new starter for 2021 and beyond soon. So, which player will take over the offense?

While the team drafted Jacob Eason in the spring, it doesn’t look like the rookie is ready to run the show. With that being said, NFL execs out there believe the Colts could be ready to make a play to land one of two intriguing options this offseason: Carson Wentz or Matthew Stafford.

The Colts landing either Matthew Stafford or Carson Wentz would be massive

Starting with Wentz, it’s looking more and more clear that his time in Philadelphia will be coming to an end soon. After struggling throughout the campaign, he was benched in favor of Jalen Hurts, who has looked promising in his short amount of time as the starter.

Wentz has also come out and said he wants to be a starter and doesn’t hope to stay in Philly as the backup quarterback. This could open the door for the Colts to swoop in and pull off a trade with the Eagles, especially if they’re set in moving forward with Hurts.

Meanwhile for the Lions, it’s looking like this team is about to enter a rebuild. With that being the case, Stafford surely won’t want to be part of that, as he’s voiced his desires to be on a competitive team and compete for championships.

A Stafford-Colts union would make sense for both parties, but he surely wouldn’t come cheap for Indianapolis. For now, all we can do is speculate as to whether or not a blockbuster trade will go down this offseason. If the Colts to acquire either signal-caller, it’d surely shake up the NFL.
