Miami’s D’Eriq King suffered a torn ACL, expected to be back in 2021

Miami quarterback D’Eriq King endured a torn ACL in a loss to Oklahoma State in the Cheez-it Bowl.

Upon hearing the words knee injury in football, you know the next news is never good, and unfortunately, the latest victim is Miami quarterback D’Eriq King. During Tuesday night’s 37-34 loss to Oklahoma State in the Cheez-It Bowl, King went down while trying to make a play, leading to his exit from the game.

To make matters worse, it was confirmed that King sustained a torn ACL on the play and will require surgery. While the bright side is that he will return in 2021, it fails to soothe the blow, knowing that his team ultimately failed to secure a victory.

King was a bright star in college football that was cut down by injury.

While it’s hard to overcome an injury, especially a knee ailment, King will have all offseason to recover. Additionally, it’s not difficult to see the charisma he instilled in the Miami program. Before joining “The U,” King was a flashy passer at the University of Houston. In 2018, he tossed for 2,982 yards and 36 touchdowns with six interceptions. Following a red-shirt season in 2019, King announced his transfer to Miami.

Upon joining “The U,” King threw 23 touchdowns to just five interceptions in his first season. Those stats vaulted Miami to a top-25 ranking at No. 18 with an 8-3 record. Unfortunately, this injury is now a setback. Furthermore, dealing with a torn ACL when your game is predicated on your athletic ability is a challenge in and of itself.

Miami was hoping to end the year on a good note, as everyone, in general, went through 2020 and dealt with several roadblocks and high levels of disappointment. Unfortunately, this injury to their star quarterback was the final nail in the coffin of a challenging year. King deserves our thoughts, and we wish him nothing but the best in his recovery.
