Oklahoma football head coach Lincoln Riley reacts to Florida football head coach Dan Mullen’s excuses for the blowout loss in the Cotton Bowl
Lincoln Riley‘s Oklahoma Sooners capped off its 2020 campaign with a statement blowout victory over the Florida Gators in Wednesday’s Cotton Bowl, 55-20.
Florida football head coach Dan Mullen was quick to fire off excuses after his team suffered its worst loss in over three years.
"“I kind of viewed — I don’t know, maybe this is wrong — that wasn’t the 2020 football team that you saw. “There were 25 guys missing off the 2020 football team out there tonight. That was kind of a kick-start for us for the future, an opportunity for the young guys to play.”"
Even though Mullen’s excuses after a 35-point loss weren’t totally off-base, the Gators’ lackluster performance on a grand stage, being the first New Years Six of the bowl season, was nothing short of embarrassing.
Lincoln Riley doesn’t want to hear Dan Mullen’s excuses
In response to Mullen’s excuses, Riley was not shy to offer his own take on his team’s dominant performance against the SEC foe.
Proud of this team, what a way to close!

Boomer‼️
Instead of allowing Mullen’s comments to overlook the Sooners’ resounding triumph, Riley was determined to respond in an uncontroversial manner and solely focus on the team’s stellar performance.
After closing the 2020 season with eight-consecutive victories, Riley’s squad will most likely be one of the early favorites to compete for a national championship in 2021, with quarterback Spencer Rattler ready to take the next step as leader of the program.
One thing is clear for Riley and the Sooners ahead of the 2021 season – Championship or bust!
