Ohio State running back Trey Sermon truly took one for the team after taking a hard hit from a Clemson defender in the worst possible area.

Ohio State needs to rely on a balanced offensive attack if they want to take down Trevor Lawrence and the Clemson Tigers in the Sugar Bowl, and Buckeyes running back Trey Sermon is leading by example, sacrificing his body in painful fashion to cap off a big gain.

Sermon tried to hurdle Clemson corner Mario Goodrich on what could’ve been a Twitter-breaking play if he stuck the landing, but he ended his run by getting a groin full of Goodrich’s helmet, taking a shot right in the jewel case as he failed to clear the Tigers corner.

Sermon ended up with the last laugh, however, as he found the end zone to help the Buckeyes tie things up at 7-7.

Trey Sermon is trying to improve upon the game of his life against Northwestern

On a day when top quarterback prospect Justin Fields clearly didn’t have his best stuff in the Big Ten Championship against Northwestern, Sermon carried the offense, totaling an insane 331 yards on 29 carries in the victory. While he paid a steep price in order to so, he reeled off two big plays in a row, getting the Buckeyes into the end zone.

Considering how crazy Clemson DC Brent Venables can be on game day if it means he will be able to shut the run down, Sermon might need to take a few more shots in unpleasant areas if he wants to help the Buckeyes pull off the upset.

While Sermon’s hurdle was equal parts courageous and foolish, as it made every male watching the game wince in pain, it shows that he is willing to do whatever is necessary to defeat Lawrence and get the Buckeyes into the National Championship Game.
