UNC football: Dazz Newsome delivers the 2021 catch of the year (Video)

2021 is two days old, but North Carolina’s Dazz Newsome already has the contender for catch of the year.
After a taxing 2020, we’ve officially reached 2021. That means we’ll have to re-up certain categories in the sports world. Of course, the most popular of categories in college football is “catch of the year.” We’re two days in, and North Carolina senior wide receiver Dazz Newsome is already the leading contender for the honors.
In the second quarter of Saturday’s Orange Bowl against Texas A&M, Tar Heels quarterback Sam Howell targeted Newsome in the end zone on a beautiful pass. With defensive back Antonio Johnson breathing down his neck, Newsome managed to bobble the pass before hauling it in for the touchdown.

It’s going to take a lot to top this catch
This impressive catch would give North Carolina a 13-10 lead in the second quarter, but Texas A&M would respond on the following drive with a three-yard touchdown run by Isaiah Spiller.
Entering the Fiesta Bowl, Newsome had 48 receptions for 616 yards and five touchdowns. It’s not exactly a stretch to say that his sixth score of the season was the most impressive. Congrats on your future award, Dazz!
