Texas football coach Tom Herman has been fired and Alabama assistant Steve Sarkisian is his replacement and social media was absolutely shook.
Tom Herman is out at Texas and Steve Sarkisian is in.
Texas football was riding high after a huge win over the Colorado Buffaloes, but with Sam Ehlinger leaving for the NFL and a lack of success in the somewhat weak Big 12, it was clear the Longhorns fell below their lofty expectations once again. That led to Texas announcing they are firing Herman and the rest of his staff.
The university has decided to make a coaching change in football. See our statement here: https://t.co/d1fj5LpWAU

The statement talks about Chris Del Conte’s decision to recommend the University move on from Herman after three years. The move is an expensive one for the university.
Social media reacts to the news that Texas has fired Tom Herman
Texas has fired Tom Herman. Will owe him $15 million and the staff nearly $24 million.

That’s a lot of money for one university to pay in order for Herman to coach somewhere else. He will likely get another job rather quickly, but his pockets are lined for the foreseeable future thanks to Texas moving on. His staff getting an extra $10ish million helps a lot for loyalty.
Tom Herman, Kevin Sumlin and Art Briles are out of work. Maybe UH is a place worth hanging around.

Unfortunately for Herman, his former job at the University of Houston is still held by Dana Holgerson, so he needs to look for a different opening if he wants to keep coaching at the Division I level.
It appears the Longhorns already have a replacement in mind, as reported by 24/7 Sports.
BREAKING: #Alabama OC Steve Sarkisian is expected to be named the new coach at #Texas, replacing Tom Herman, who was fired Saturday, multiple sources told Horns247.https://t.co/hC1KXr2VPr

Steve Sarkisian has been a hot name in the college football world. That’s because he turned Alabama from a ground-and-pound attack to one of the most high-octane offenses in recent memory. Alabama is the top team in the country thanks to the growth of players like Mac Jones, Devonta Smith, and Najee Harris.

Those are some spectacular numbers out of the offense. While this may come as a surprise for some, others in college football circles say this might have been in the works for a while.
This had been the word in the coaching world the last couple weeks, that Steve Sarkisian was the name to keep an eye on for that job if/when Texas made a move on Tom Herman https://t.co/cNxeZbMb5z

Sarkisian has a history as head coach with stops at Washington and USC. Many expected him to go to a low-profile program after how things ended at USC, but this is the opposite of that.

Happy to see Steve Sarkisian found a nice low pressure HC job with a reasonable fan base to get back into the game with

However, it looks like Texas has been vetting any possible issues with Sarkisian’s past and they feel confident he’s past any demons.
Am told that #Texas has been vetting Alabama OC Steve Sarkisian and has heard very positive reports about how he's handled himself since coming to Tuscaloosa. A potential hire of the Broyles Award could happen soon at UT.

This was a shock for college football fans, but the timing makes sense. If Texas was going to move on, right now would be the right time.
Texas lost 7 times to unranked teams when they were ranked in the AP Poll since Tom Herman was hired in 2017.
