Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence took the high road after a reporter mocked his mustache.

It was a rough night for Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence and the Tigers against Justin Fields and the Ohio State Buckeyes in a Sugar Bowl loss. After the loss, Lawrence calmly answered questions about the game and even showed class when his mustache became a topic of conversation.

During the post-game Zoom press conference, one reporter thought she was muted when she mocked Lawrence’s mustache, saying he needed to shave.

After a few moments of awkwardness where the entire media and Lawrence heard it and the woman overseeing the interview telling her to mute herself, Lawrence calmly replied by saying, “thank you.”

Trevor Lawrence does have a Larry Bird-like mustache, but it’s the effort that counts

Credit Lawrence for taking the gaffe in stride. It’s not like he probably hasn’t heard similar from his friends and family. After all, it’s not that serious. It does show he has a sense of humor and isn’t easily rattled. He’ll face far tougher questions and criticisms when he’s in the NFL anyway.

No word on whether Lawrence plans to keep the mustache when he enters the NFL as the presumptive No. 1 pick of the Jacksonville Jaguars, but one reporter hopes he’ll break out the Gillette and shave that thing off.
