Korey Foreman takes his No. 1 overall recruiting ranking to the USC Trojans.

USC football fans must be elated to land the No. 1 player in the country for the 2021 cycle, as Korey Foreman elects to stay in-state to play his college ball.

Foreman is the No. 1 prospect in 2021, according to the 247Sports Composite. The defensive lineman from Corona, California picked the USC Trojans over the Arizona State Sun Devils, the Clemson Tigers, the Georgia Bulldogs and the LSU Tigers during the Under Armour All-America Game on Saturday, Jan. 2.

“USC always felt like home to me,” said Foreman. “I grew up here and know everything about this place and about the school. At the end of the day, these are my roots and I have a really strong comfort level with everyone at USC.”

“The biggest selling point for me with USC was the improvement I saw from them this year from a year ago. You can tell the new staff is making an impact and you can tell they’re on the right path.”

Korey Foreman could help USC take back control of its recruiting base

What has hurt the Trojans in the last decade or so has been recruitment. During much of the Clay Helton era in Los Angeles, the Trojans have lost many top high school talents akin to Foreman to programs like the Oregon Ducks or even to those in SEC country. USC wins enough under Helton for him to keep his job, but getting top talent poach out of Southern California has to stop.

No, USC is not going to be able to build a fence around Southern California and keep everyone it wants playing for the Trojans. However, protecting its turf may end up being the biggest reason USC eventually comes back to national prominence in the 2020s. If it is Helton, it will have to happen soon. If not, it will have to be his successor at least a few years down the line.

By keeping Foreman in Southern California, it sets a tremendous tone for the year ahead for them.
