Scouting Report. Offensive Coordinator, Chiefs. . Eric Bieniemy. Pick Analysis. 3.. player. 124

If Bieniemy doesn’t get a head coaching job for 2021, something is wrong.

It’s easy to call plays for a high-flying offense when Patrick Mahomes is the quarterback, but Bieniemy has show great imagination to try different things too. Gadget plays sometimes come off as an effort to ward off boredom (see Sammy Watkins’ pass to Mahomes in Week 16), but Bieniemy is a fit for any head coaching opening that already is or will be out there.

Bieniemy may be a victim of Kansas City’s success, as the prospect of a second straight Super Bowl run will mean multiple head-coaching jobs will get filed in the meantime. But he can interview during the Chiefs’ postseason bye week, and he surely will make some rounds.

Waiting for someone to coach in the Super Bowl before making a hire official is hardly unheard of (see Dan Quinn and the Atlanta Falcons, Kyle Shanahan and the San Francisco 49ers…).

In terms of the Jaguars having a shot to hire Bieniemy, that may depend on what he thinks of Lawrence as a quarterback prospect. As unlikely as it is, there’s a possibility he regards another quarterback in the 2021 draft class closely to Lawrence. Or, would Bieniemy rather go somewhere with a proven signal caller? (paging the Houston Texans, or the Atlanta Falcons).

I don’t consider it very likely that Bieniemy lands in Jacksonville. But their head coaching search is not complete until they’ve expressed interest, even if he turns down the interview.
