Yasiel Puig will have plenty of teams to choose from in 2020.

Yasiel Puig has had quite a wild ride in the MLB, as he has gone from hyped prospect to legit superstar to minor-leaguer once more before re-emerging as a solid role player away from the Los Angeles Dodgers. Despite his sustained offensive production in the majors over the last few years, he has had difficulty finding work over the last few offseasons. After a grand total of zero MLB games in 2020, Puig is locked in and ready to go in 2021, with five teams already considering bringing the Wild Horse on board.

According to Mark Feinsand, playoff teams like the New York Yankees, Miami Marlins, and Houston Astros have interest in Puig, as do a few non-playoff organizations like the Boston Red Sox and Baltimore Orioles.

Yasiel Puig is looking to get back in the swing of things after not playing in 2020

Puig went unsigned for most of the pre-pandemic offseason, but his production from 2019 certainly warranted a team taking a chance on him, as his .267 average was his highest since 2014 and his 84 RBI set a new career record. While the Atlanta Braves did sign him just before the start of the season to replace Nick Markakis, he didn’t play a game for them after a positive COVID-19 test ruined the deal.

Puig might not have the speed he had in his youth, but he offers power, a missile launcher of a right arm in the outfield, and more than enough vibrancy and passion. For any team in need of an offensive upgrade at a corner outfield spot without breaking the bank, Puig could certainly step right in and start raking.

With non-playoff teams looking for a veteran bat to hit in the heart of the order and contenders in need of an ancillary piece to bolster depth, Puig won’t have to wait long to sign this offseason.
