Alabama football: Crimson Tide offensive line wins Joe Moore Award

The strength of the Alabama football offensive line, winners of the Joe Moore Award, is one reason for them playing in the National Championship Game.

The Alabama Crimson Tide are once again ranked as the #1 team in the country and once again are playing for a national title.  Their offensive line has a lot to do with the success of this season, and as such, they were rewarded for their efforts with the prestigious Joe Moore Award.

This award is presented to the best offensive line in college football, and this is the second time since the inception of the award that Nick Saban’s group has received the honor.

“I think this is one of the awards that I really cherish the most because it’s one of the few that honors a group of players, and the offensive line is a special group of guys,” Saban said. ” I think this is a tremendous thing that they continue to do in Joe Moore’s honor because it does mean a lot to our group, who has won it before.”

Alabama’s offensive line is the key to their success this season.

Led by senior offensive tackle Alex Leatherwood and senior guard Deonte Brown, the Crimson Tide have only allowed nine sacks in 12 games while ranking second nationally in rushing touchdowns with 35 and fourth in the SEC in rushing offense with 185.7 yards per game.

Additionally, their performance level has enabled running back Najee Harris to excel at a high level while opening the lane for either quarterback Mac Jones or wide receiver Devonta Smith to potentially be the recipient of the Heisman Trophy.

Additionally, Leatherwood, a potential first-round pick, is one of the leading candidates for the Outland Trophy and senior center Landon Dickerson, who will be inactive for the Championship Game due to injury, is a candidate to receive the Rimington Trophy for the nation’s best center.
