There seems to be mutual interest in staying together between Godwin and the Buccaneers, and Godwin confirmed that as the regular season wound down.
Antonio Brown and Rob Gronkowski donāt seem likely to be back next season, and for as long as Tom Brady is the quarterback Tampa Bay is firmly in win-now mode. So that means not letting key weapons leave. Godwin is that type of key player, looking not only to the 2021 season but likely to the next Buccaneersā quarterback after Brady given that heās going be just 25 years old through all of next season.
Tampa Bay probably wonāt be able to compete if Godwin gets a break-the-bank offer from another team. But they arenāt going to be cash-poor looking to the offseason either, with around $31 million or just under $26 million in cap space right now depending on the source. Looking at their 2021 cap sheet, there seems to be some options to create more space.
It really depends on how high a priority the Buccaneers place on retaining Godwin, and how his market takes shape in terms of possible offers he canāt refuse from the outside. But a continuation of the relationship feels very likely.
