11. Marvin Jones, Florida State, LB

Marvin Jones is not the famous “Marvin” on this list, but he is the better of the two Marvins on the College Football Hall of Fame ballot. Marvin Jones was one of the best defensive players of the early 90s. He was also a two-time All American like many recent members on the list. He was named Sporting News’ College Football Player of the Year. He won the Butkus and Lombardi Awards in 1992.

His Florida State Hall of Fame biography calls him one of the finest linebackers in the history of college football. Anyone who might even be considered the best at his position needs to be in the Hall of Fame. This is especially true at linebacker, where there have been some of the most talented athletes in the sport’s history.

Jones finished fourth in Heisman Trophy voting in 1991, a year he had 111 tackles and seven tackles for loss. Teams would literally run away from Jones. A player who literally changed the gameplan of the best coaches in the sport needs to get honored.

Jones had a wonderful career that likely should have led to his Hall of Fame induction a long time ago. He was great. Plain and simple. The Seminoles were able to dominate on defense specifically because of Jones’ special talents.
