Patrick Mahomes deserves strong MVP consideration for 2020. If the award is indeed granted to the best player on the best team, well, there you have it. The 2020 MVP is Patrick Mahomes. His team has the NFL’s best record, and he is the best player on the Chiefs (and earth).

Yet, this is the type of charade that happens to LeBron James each year. Every year since around 2008, James has been the best player in the NBA. However, the NBA enjoys giving it to a litany of players like Derrick Rose, Steph Curry, or Giannis Antetokounmpo. Should the NFL send the award in Aaron Rodgers’ direction, it’s a LeBronesque ordeal that will snake-bite Mahomes.

The one statistical advantage that Mahomes has in the MVP race is the win column. His Chiefs have one more win than the Packers and probably would have been two more wins had Kansas City played its starters in Week 17.

Mahomes’ closing argument is his marketability. Few folks out of Wisconsin will rage if Mahomes wins the award. Why? Because he is widely recognized as the best player in the NFL.
