Notre Dame football: QB Ian Book declares for NFL Draft

Quarterback Ian Book says goodbye to Notre Dame, as he prepares his transition to the NFL.

Ian Book’s senior season at Notre Dame didn’t end in the way he anticipated. Weeks after losing the ACC Championship Game to Clemson, Notre Dame was ousted from the CFP Semifinals at the hands of Alabama.

With his collegiate career behind him, Book released a statement through his Twitter account to say thank his teammates and coaches, officially signaling the end of his time at Notre Dame. Now, he begins his journey to the NFL.

Book heading to the NFL Draft

2020 was a different year for Book, as the normally independent school opted to join the ACC due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic. Arguably the biggest game of his career came in the middle of the season, as Notre Dame upset Clemson in overtime to continue their undefeated season.

In 12 games this year, Book completed 64.6-percent of his passes for 2,829 yards, 15 touchdowns and three interceptions. Additionally, Book rushed for 485 yards and nine touchdowns on 116 carries.

Now, Book will prepare for the NFL Draft, where he’s going to join a loaded quarterback class. Trevor Lawrence, Justin Field, Zach Wilson, Trey Lance and Mac Jones are all expected to be selected in the first round of the draft. Book won’t be a starter immediately in the NFL, but he could join a team on the second or third day of the draft where he can undergo further development to reach that goal in the future.

No matter where Book’s journey takes him, he’ll fondly look back at the great years he’s had at South Bend.
