Dallas Cowboys have fired defensive coordinator Mike Nolan. 

According to FOX NFL’s Jay Glazer, the Dallas Cowboys have finally parted ways with defensive coordinator Mike Nolan. The coach served as the defensive coordinator for the team for just one season, and it was a disastrous one.

Nolan confirmed the decision to the Dallas News via a text message on Friday.

The already struggling team had one of its worst seasons in recent memory and even set a milestone for some pretty bad ball playing. The Cowboys allowed 218 points in its first six games the most of NFL team since 1954.

Players were unable to practice Mike Nolan’s unusual plays due to COVID-19

“I think it was evident it was hard to implement a new system and not be able to practice it,” Leighton Vander Esch said (h/t Dallas News). “I think we finally were just starting to get the hang of it at the end of the season, and I think it showed really when we were starting to understand things a lot better, it was showing up on film. But it was hard not having an offseason and not being able to actually be out on the field and going through that stuff.”

It was a trying time for the franchise even if you set COVID-19 worries aside. Their quarterback Dak Prescott, suffered a season-ending compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle in week 5 that sealed the deal for the team.
