This will be a game that Frank Reich and the Indianapolis Colts might have nightmares of in the future this offseason.

The Indianapolis Colts might be ready to build for the long-term future, but Saturday’s game will be one they soon won’t forget. The AFC Wild Card Round seemed to be ready for any team to pull off the upset.

That’s likely not the case for the Colts entering the closing minutes of the fourth quarter.

Frank Reich’s questionable play-calling has put Indianapolis’ back against the wall. It all started with a pair of punts. Both times, the Colts were in Buffalo Bills territory, yet chose to pin Buffalo deep in their own end zone.

The Bills were able to score on a Josh Allen touchdown pass to Dawson Knox.

In the red zone, the Colts had a chance to score six. On 3rd and GOAL, Jared Veldheer missed a block that led to Taron Johnson holding Jonathan Taylor out of the end zone.

Reich could have accepted the three points. Instead, the Colts went for it and missed Michael Pittman Jr. in the end zone.

Allen would score on the following drive thanks to two key plays from Gabriel Davis and an offside call from a Colts’ defender on fourth and short.

The Colts are beating themselves against the Bills.

Indianapolis finished two drives with 22 plays, 115 yards and six first downs. They also chewed away the clock with nearly 12 minutes ticking away.

After a Rodrigo Blankenship missed 33-yard field goal, it remained 17-10 in favor of the home team. Allen would connect with Stefon Diggs to make it 24-10 in the fourth quarter.

It would be the first time the biggest free-agent acquisition played in front of the Bills’ Mafia fanbase.

There were multiple moments for the Colts to show they could contend. Philip Rivers continues to show that his age has defined his career. The run game from Taylor has shredded through Buffalo’s front seven.

Instead, a handful of plays could be the difference between a quality win for the Colts or a tragic loss in the franchise’s history.

There’s plenty of time left for Indianapolis to make things interesting, but they’ll need to move quick against the Bills’ defense.
