Ohio State commit Quinn Ewers gave an “O-H’ to Alabama signee Kendrick Blackshire when they met in a playoff semifinal.

It’s never too early for a college football rivalry to take root.

On Friday night, after the Class 6A Division 1 Texas state semifinal game between Southlake Carroll and Duncanville, a pair of future college foes affirmed that with some friendly trash talk.

Southlake Carroll quarterback Quinn Ewers and Duncanville linebacker Kendrick Blackshire met after the game to exchange some pleasantries before Monday’s national title game matchup came into focus.

Ewers is an Ohio State commit. Blackshire signed for Alabama in December. So naturally, the future Buckeye gave the future Crimson Tide player an “O-H” gesture to rep his allegiance.

Ohio State and Alabama commits can hope for future meetings

The Buckeyes and the Tide will face off on Monday night with Mac Jones and Justin Fields leading the way, but Ewers and Blackshire could be the next generation to create playoff matchups between the two college football powerhouses.

Blackshire will get his chance first. The 6-foot-2, 245-pound inside linebacker locked into Alabama’s No. 1-ranked recruiting class of 2021 on Early Signing Day. He ranks No. 146 in the 247Sports composite.

Ewers is the top-rated recruit in the class of 2022, giving the 6-foot-3, 195-bound quarterback another year before he can join Ohio State as planned.

Ewers’ Southlake Carroll bested Blackshire’s Duncanville 34-27 on Friday night. He scored on a 13-yard run and a 64-yard touchdown pass, though Blackshire and company did manage to keep his overall numbers pedestrian. They couldn’t stop running back Owen Allen, however. He exploded for 192 yards and two touchdowns, per MaxPreps.
