Scouting Report. AFC. South. Indianapolis Colts. player. Pick Analysis. 4. 46

While the Colts have to answer questions about who is going to be playing quarterback next year, they need to get whichever quarterback is behind Door No. 2 some help at wide receiver. While drafting Michael Pittman Jr. in the second round last year looks like a brilliant move, TY Hilton is starting to get a little long in the tooth and Zach Pascal doesn’t offer a high-enough ceiling. Frank Reich has proven to be a very adaptable offensive coach, making use of both downfield speed demons and yards-after-catch dynamos. Luckily, Smith has proven to be an expert in both of those areas.

The Colts currently own the 21st pick in the 2021 draft, and Smith’s performance against Ohio State made it perfectly clear that there is no chance that he ends up going anywhere lower than the Top 10. Chris Ballard has plenty of cap space to get depth pieces in free agency, and he has to realize that a very deep team with good coaching around it is one player away from becoming a true juggernaut. Trading away a few draft picks in order to get Smith, a move not dissimilar from when the Falcons nabbed Julio Jones way back when, could help them win the division next year.
