Scouting Report. NFC. West. player. 2. 42. Pick Analysis. San Francisco 49ers

While the 49ers will be in the market for a quarterback given their frustration with Jimmy Garoppolo, Kyle Shanahan is doing a solid job of surrounding his quarterback with quality targets, developing one of the best tight ends in the league in George Kittle while also using a first-round pick on slippery Arizona State product Brandon Aiyuk. The only thing that is missing is a true star outside that can use his blazing speed to separate down the field. Luckily for San Francisco, such a player exists in the ultra-dynamic Smith.

Shanahan has made the most out of Garoppolo by turning San Francisco’s offense into a completely YAC-based attack, Smith’s speed and long arms could help him haul in deep passes, giving this attack a vertical element that they sorely missed last season. Going from No. 12 into the top five could be risky, but GM John Lynch has proven he will trade picks if it means he can get a shot at “his guy” in the draft. No matter who is under center, Smith on one side of the field and Aiyuk on the other would give the 49ers a tremendous 1-2 punch at receiver for decades to come in Santa Clara.
