Bears need to go all-in to trade up for Justin Fields

Could Justin Fields be wearing Bears blue and orange after the 2021 NFL Draft?

Another playoff season ended in disappointment for the Chicago Bears, as poor quarterback play from Mitch Trubisky wasted a career-best stretch from David Montgomery and another year of excellent defense.

While most think that the Bears will likely be picking too late in the draft to secure one of the top quarterback prospects in the draft, Ryan Pace can change all that by going for broke and trading a haul of draft picks to move up to the top five and secure the selection of Ohio State gunslinger Justin Fields.

While Lawrence confirmed his runaway status as the best player in this draft, Fields is by no means a subpar consolation prize, as his dominance of Brent Venables’ wicked defense shows just how lethal his mobility, arm strength, and deep accuracy can be, even against elite competition. Matt Nagy was able to get to the postseason with Trubisky, meaning that Fields could step right into a team looking to get to the postseason.

The Bears would have to essentially give up their whole draft for this move to happen, but Pace is on his last leg, and he needs to take a Fields-sized swing in order to get the Bears back on the right track.

As raw as Fields may be in some areas, it doesn’t take a Hall of Fame GM to figure out that he has a much higher ceiling than Trubisky ever had as a prospect. With the defense in place and most of the skill position talent returning for next year, giving up most of their draft capital in 2021 for Fields could turn the Bears into a contender for the next decade, irrespective of who the coach is.
