Chiefs should target these Alabama, Ohio State players in NFL Draft
By John Buhler
The Kansas City Chiefs could draft Alabama or Ohio State football players early in 2021.
The Kansas City Chiefs used their No. 32 overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft to take a star from the 2020 National Championship game.
Kansas City took LSU Tigers standout running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire with the final pick of the first round. With the Chiefs expected to repeat as Super Bowl champions, they will once again be picking in the latter part of round one. Could they take one of these Alabama football stars or Ohio State football phenoms early in the 2021 NFL Draft? Who is worth taking that high?
One of these five players could be Kansas City Chiefs next season
Ohio State guard Wyatt Davis
Wyatt Davis has serious NFL pedigree, as his grandfather is Green Bay Packers legend Willie Davis. While he plays on the different side of the ball from his late hall-of-fame grandfather, Davis could be a high-end guard or maybe even a tackle at the next level. Regardless of what position he plays, Davis will likely come off the board in the first round of the upcoming 2021 NFL Draft.
Alabama center Landon Dickerson
Though he sustained an injury in the Crimson Tide’s Rose Bowl victory over the Notre Dame Fighting Irish, Alabama center Landon Dickerson was outstanding this past season. He took home the Rimington as the best center in college football. As with Davis, he could be a big boost along the offensive interior for the Chiefs. Maintaining Patrick Mahomes‘ pocket clean is paramount.
Alabama offensive tackle Alex Leatherwood
Alex Leatherwood was one of the handful of Alabama players who decided to come back to Tuscaloosa for his senior season. It panned out marvelously for the offensive tackle, as he took home the Outland Trophy for his incredible senior campaign. Eric Fisher is not getting any younger and Mitchell Schwartz has missed ample time this season. Maybe Leatherwood is worth it here?
Ohio State wide receiver Chris Olave
It may be more of a plug-and-play sort of deal with the Chiefs passing game, but once again, you can never have too many good wide receivers. With Sammy Watkins hitting free agency, the Chiefs may want to address this in the draft and not overpay for the former Clemson star again. Ohio State wideout Chris Olave could be there for the Chiefs in the latter part of the first round.
Alabama defensive end LaBryan Ray
A lot of this is contingent on if LaBryan Ray decides to turn pro after his junior year. The Chiefs’ other draft need besides offensive line and wide receiver would be out on the edge. Alabama defensive players do have a reputation of being also-ran when they come to the league. However, Ray may have untapped potential that his head coach Nick Saban has not used up already.
What players in this game do you think will look good starring at Arrowhead Stadium in 2021?
