Ohio State football fans react to National Championship

Ohio State fans were down in the dumps after watching the Buckeyes lose to the Alabama Crimson Tide in the CFP National Championship Game.

The Ohio State Buckeyes pulled off what was viewed as an upset in the Sugar Bowl on New Year’s Day with their blowout victory over the Clemson Tigers. While nice and all, the Buckeyes faced a true test in the CFP National Championship Game, as they faced the 12-0 Alabama Crimson Tide.

Ryan Day’s squad learned the hard way just how difficult it is to keep up against Alabama. They were dominated in the first half by running back Najee Harris and Heisman Trophy winner DeVonta Smith. They entered halftime down 35-17, but they just couldn’t keep up. They ultimately fell 52-24.

Some Ohio State fans were so dejected, that they actually turned the game off at halftime.

Ohio State no match for Alabama

Ohio State had to overcome a plethora of COVID-19 issues between themselves and their scheduled opponents this year. In fact, the Buckeyes were technically ineligible for the Big Ten Championship because they only played five games instead of the required six. Yet, the Buckeyes went in and defeated Northwestern. Then, they pulled off the upset in the Sugar Bowl against the Clemson Tigers to reach the CFP National Championship Game.

Unfortunately, the Buckeyes had no answers for Alabama’s offense consisting of Mac Jones, Najee Harris and Smith. Additionally, the Buckeyes had to deal with early injuries to true difference-makers in running back Trey Sermon and offensive guard Wyatt Davis in the first half.

This loss will certainly sting for Buckeyes fans, but at least the local Cleveland Browns won their first playoff game since 1994. They can at least take solace in that.
