The Texans waited so long in interview Eric Bieniemy that now they can’t
The Houston Texans have requested to interview Eric Bieniemy but now, they’ll have to wait until after the Super Bowl.
Nick Caserio‘s one job with the Houston Texans is to make Deshaun Watson happy. The franchise quarterback was disgruntled by the team’s hiring process of their next general manager, leading to reports he could force a trade.
So far, Caserio has done his part to douse the flames and calm the trade rumors. On Tuesday, the Texans finally put in the request to interview Kansas City Chiefs offensive coordinator Eric Bieniemy.
Bieniemy, 51, was Watson’s top choice and received a recommendation from All-Pro quarterback Patrick Mahomes. Too little too late for Houston fans as now they’ll have to wait to interview the hottest name on the market.
According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, Houston won’t be able to interview Bieniemy at the moment due to the anti-tampering policy. Bieniemy’s window for interviews closed Sunday and will not open back up until Kansas City loses or until the season’s completion.

Bieniemy has already interviewed for five of the current seven positions available.
Will the Houston Texans have their shot with Eric Bieniemy?
The Chiefs could be deploying the best offense in three years since Bieniemy’s promotion. The Mahomes, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce are a trifecta of talent that’s met by multiple top-tier names on both sides of the ball.
As the battle for the AFC will go through Arrowhead Stadium, there’s a good chance that Kansas City returns to the big game as the conference champs once more.

The Texans’ gamble of waiting has not paid off. Not only will they have a disgruntled quarterback to worry about, but they must hope Bieniemy’s other interviews went poorly. Even if they didn’t, now Caserio will have to sell perhaps the top coach on why Houston is the perfect landing spot for him despite being the last to call.
The Texans fans might be in love with Bieniemy, but they’re likely hoping for the upset. If not, their chance at signing the offensive wizard — and perhaps keeping Watson — could be dwindling.
