Will Kansas City Chiefs standout running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire be able to suit up this weekend to face Cleveland?

Towards the end of the regular season, Kansas City Chiefs fans everywhere received quite the scare when stud rookie running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire went down with a hip and ankle injury against the New Orleans Saints. Immediately, people panicked thinking he’d be lost for the year.

Fortunately for Patrick Mahomes, Andy Reid and the rest of the offense, Edwards-Helaire’s injury wasn’t as serious as first thought, and he’s grinding around the clock to try and get on the field on Sunday to take on the Browns.

His chances just went up quite a bit, as the speedster was out on the practice field on Wednesday for the Kansas City session.

Clyde Edwards-Helaire returning this weekend would be huge for the Chiefs

While Edwards-Helaire’s status for the weekend is still up in the air, the fact that he was able to suit up on Wednesday is a great sign for Kansas City. The first-year running back has really impressed this year, as he’s rushed for 803 yards and four touchdowns.

Le’Veon Bell filled in as the starter to close the season, but there’s no denying Edwards-Helaire provides a more explosive element for the offense.

While the Chiefs are hopeful the youngster can return this weekend, they of course won’t want to rush him back too soon either. With the team eyeing another Super Bowl win, they know they’ll need Edwards-Helaire as close to full health as possible to make that happen.

Should Edwards-Helaire be able to get in a full practice in the coming days, we very well may end up seeing him return to his starting duties. That’d be bad news for the Cleveland defense.
