The Eagles will be looking to find their next head coach following the firing of Doug Pederson. Offensive production cost Philadelphia a chance at the postseason despite playing in a struggling division. Carson Wentz is set to be the team’s quarterback moving forward, meaning whoever Jeff Lurie hires will have to work with the former No. 2 pick.

Staley will be in a weird position heading into the offseason. He’s up for the job as head coach in Philly and is the team’s top internal candidate. The running backs coach has some experience in the leadership role as Pederson left during training camp following a positive COVID-19 test.

On top of that, Staley is well-respected by multiple executives across the league.

If Staley isn’t the choice, the next coach could let him go when assembling his own staff. More than that, the 45-year-old might want to leave after being turned away for a chance to become the man with the plan. And with the emergence of Miles Sanders, perhaps that spark could be brought over to the other side of Pennsylvania for a season or two.

Staley could hit the open market and become a hot name. Tomlin would be foolish not to make a call.
