Eagles have a new head-coaching candidate, and it’s terrifying
By John Buhler
Philadelphia Eagles fans will be apoplectic over who is a head-coaching candidate for the Birds.
The Philadelphia Eagles have to replace former head coach Doug Pederson, but their fanbase may not be ready for who could be coming into replace him atop their beloved team’s highest football perch.
Yes, he too wears a visor like Pederson, as The Athletic reports the Eagles brass are interviewing controversial New England Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels to be their next head coach. McDaniels was a disaster as the Denver Broncos head coach over a decade ago. He nearly took the Indianapolis Colts job before leaving Chris Ballard at the alter to stay in Foxborough.
Is Josh McDaniels the right man to lead the Philadelphia Eagles?
McDaniels has waited patiently for his next shot at sitting in the big chair. Hopefully, he has learned a ton from the coaching abomination that was on full display in Denver in the early 2010s. Though he may be the coach-in-waiting in New England, if anybody coaches in the NFL until he is 80 years old, my money would be on Bill Belichick, as he loves football more than anyone.
As for if McDaniels could fix the Eagles, it really depends on how well he lines up with general manager Howie Roseman and starting quarterback Carson Wentz. If he can assimilate with those two, he has the chance to be akin to Andy Reid in the City of Brotherly Love. But if he cannot, he may go the way of Pederson or god forbid, what happened to Chip Kelly in his three-year run.
McDaniels being a head-coaching candidate in Philadelphia certainly moves the needle.
