Former Auburn defensive end Big Kat Bryant is set to reunite with an old coach after picking Tennessee as his transfer destination.

Former four-star defensive end and Auburn starter Big Kat Bryant has decided on a new home thanks to a familiar face.

The senior who played defensive end for the Tigers for four seasons is heading to Tennessee, according to his Twitter account.

His connection to the Volunteers is a personal one. His former high school head coach Shelton Felton became the outside linebackers coach in 2020.

Auburn has another coach familiar to Bryant on staff. Former DC Kevin Steele was brought in by Jeremy Pruitt as a defensive assistant following his stint as Auburn’s interim head coach.

Tennessee is adding an experienced DE in Big Kat Bryant

Auburn’s loss is Tennessee’s gain. They’re adding a defensive lineman with plenty of playing experience and production.

They need him too. The Volunteer’s leading sack-getter from 2020, Kivon Bennett, was dismissed from the team after an arrest. Second-leader Deandre Johnson decided to transfer to Miami.

With Matthew Butler‘s return secured, the Vols can now give him some support in the form of Bryant to help make up for the losses.

Bryant may be best known for his 83-yard fumble recovery return against Oregon to start the 2019 season. He went on to establish himself as a key starter for the Tigers’ defensive line over the next two years.

In 2020, Bryant had three sacks, four hurries, 17 tackles and an interception in 10 games while fighting through injuries. He was named to the All-SEC second team as the result of his efforts.

As a junior, he had 1.5 sacks and nine hurries with two pass breakups. Statistically, his best season was in 2018 with 3.5 sacks as a backup. He was an SEC All-Freshman selection in 2017.
