NFL free agency rumors: 3 free agents the Rams should target this offseason
The Los Angeles Rams are trying to remain competitive in the NFC West. To do so, they’ll need to be on point in the offseason
The Los Angeles Rams are one of the most complete teams in the NFL. Granted, the franchise has questions with Jared Goff moving forward, but the team was able to win 10 games on the year.
The top-ranked defense will be the bread and butter for Sean McVay’s roster for years to come. With names like Jalen Ramsey and Aaron Donald leading the pack, they’ll always be in the race for the top roster each year.
Goff certainly bought himself another season with a victory over the Seattle Seahawks. Playing against Aaron Rodgers in his own backyard is a tad harder. Sure, the defense stepped up, but so did the weather at Lambeau Field Saturday afternoon.
Los Angeles won’t be able to be major players this offseason due to contracts they already owe. Les Snead will need to be savvy when negotiating deals. Without it, the Rams could be looking at a down year for 2021.
Overall, these small moves could be the difference between remaining a postseason contender or out of the conversation altogether.
3 free agents the Rams should look for this offseason
For the Rams to be successful on offense, they’ll need to solidify their offensive line. Andrew Whitworth will be 39 this offseason and is coming off a serious injury. Could he return? Sure. However, he’ll likely be calling it a career after next season.
It’ll be near impossible to grab a premier tackle in the free agent pool with the salary cap at hand. However, addressing the interior offensive line should be a need as well. Austin Blythe struggled in pass protection and there’s no telling if David Edwards will be the answer at guard.
Three years ago, Alex Mack likely was considered a top-five center in the NFL. Now, he’s entered the backend of his career. The 35-year-old still is one of the better run blockers at the position and is decent in pass protection.
Los Angeles should consider him for a one-year deal. The team needs depth in the trenches and his veteran leadership would transition over well for a unit that’s slowly going to rebuild. The California native could be looking to end his career close to home. It makes sense for both parties.
