What does Jared Goff’s contract look like for the Rams?
The Jared Goff contract extension kicks in with a big number this offseason so are the Rams stuck with the former No. 1 pick or can they make a trade?
There’s always the question of if teams want to be good or great. So, let’s turn the attention to the Los Angeles Rams.
A 52-yard touchdown to Allen Lazard was the ultimate difference-maker in a 32-18 victory for the Green Bay Packers. Up until the final two drives, it felt as if the Rams could make things interesting.
A 4th and 14 forced Jared Goff to throw downfield and keep his season alive. Instead, he was sacked once again for the fourth time on the afternoon, all but sealing a win for the Pack attack at home in Lambeau Field.
Goff finished 21-of-27 for 174 yards and a touchdown. While he didn’t have a turnover, he also struggled to move the ball deep downfield. His average pass traveled 6.4 yards and only three plays went for more than 15.
He wasn’t the reason for the Rams’ implosion towards the final minutes, but he’s limited overall. So, what does Los Angeles have to look forward to over the next few years?
Goff’s contract makes it hard to trade him this offseason
The Rams agreed to a four-year $136 million deal last offseason to keep him in Los Angeles through 2025. Over the next two seasons, the 26-year-old will take up almost $67 million in cap space before the team could get a potential out in 2023.
Goff will need to improve as a passer. His turnover ratio isn’t a glaring need, but he also can’t extend plays consistently past the 10-yard marker. And with teams in NFC West only improving under center, one has to wonder if Goff will limit the Rams’ Lombardi chances.
Overall, Goff is the definition of your prototypical quarterback. Build around him and things will be strong. Make him the x-factor and it’s all crumbling down.
