The Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver just missed out on a go-ahead touchdown before halftime.

This past week, the NFL hyped up the New Orleans Saints-Tampa Bay Buccaneers matchup as a legendary battle between Drew Brees and Tom Brady. For the first half of action, that exciting duel has been rather dull, with the bright spot of the game coming on a touchdown pass from Jameis Winston. However, the Buccaneers almost capitalized on a huge play just at the end of the second quarter.

On second-and-15, Brady targeted wide receiver Chris Godwin on a 29-yard pass to the end zone but dropped it. The Buccaneers settled for a field goal to enter halftime with a 13-13 tie.

No, the Bucs didn’t get screwed

While Buccaneers fans believed that Godwin did get both feet in bounds at the time of the catch, the problem is that the ball bounced out of Godwin’s possession once his elbow hit the ground. Godwin didn’t follow through, thus no catch. Just look at the following close-up replay and you’ll see for yourself.

Godwin has been a bit rattled ever since the Buccaneers clinched their first playoff berth since 2007. In his first-career postseason game, Godwin caught 5-of-12 of his targets for 79 yards and a touchdown in Tampa Bay’s 31-23 victory over the Washington Football Team. Out of Godwin’s seven incompletions, four of them were drops.

One week later, Godwin’s case of the dropski’s continued to haunt him in a must-win game against the rival Saints. That will be something the Buccaneers and the 31 other teams in the league will monitor when he hits the open market at season’s end.
