Drew Brees says goodbye to Saints fans and Superdome in potential final NFL game (Video)

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees will have a gold jacket in about exactly six years.
With his New Orleans Saints falling at home to the division rival Tampa Bay Buccaneers 30-20 in the NFC Divisional round, quarterback Drew Brees seemed to take it in one last time at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome.
Brees is expected to retire and join the NBC Sports broadcast booth in 2021. While he may want to keep playing and get his team back to the Super Bowl, Father Time has other plans. Brees threw three interceptions in the Saints’ latest playoff heartbreak. He is a future first-ballot Pro Football Hall of Famer, but even he knows this is the end of the line. Brees thanked the Saints fans.

What will Drew Brees’ NFL legacy be if this is indeed his final game?
Brees will go down as one of the 10 best quarterbacks to ever play in the NFL. His name is all over the record books for passing proficiency and excellence. He is the unquestioned best player in Saints franchise history. Together with head coach Sean Payton, they helped bring the city back from the devastation that was Hurricane Katrina. In 2009, it all came together with a Lombardi Trophy.
However, Brees’ lone trip to the Super Bowl will prevent him from surpassing a number of quarterbacking greats in the all-time pantheon. Winning a second would have put him ahead of potentially Peyton Manning and definitely Aaron Rodgers. Instead, it will be up for discussion as to where he ranks all time. Is he closer to top-five or is he closer to top-10? Either way, he was great.
Brees was one of the greatest quarterbacks of his generation and in the history of football.
